Steps ahead
Steps ahead: Knaus Tabbert shapes the future of e-Caravanning
Electric is the buzz word of modern mobility. More and more people are opting for cars with alternative power systems. No harmful burning of fossil fuels, fewer local emissions – putting climate protection back on the road. From January to August 2023 alone, almost half of all newly registered vehicles in Germany were equipped with alternative power systems. 614,200 hybrid vehicles were registered in Germany by September last year. This trend is also reflected throughout Europe: In August 2023, for example, registrations of all-electric Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) had a record increase of 118.1 per cent in Europe – this corresponds to 165,165 new vehicle registrations and a market share of 21 per cent in this month alone.
Knaus Tabbert is building on these developments and setting a positive example for the future of electromobility – especially for modern caravanning. Take the KNAUS YASEO, for example, an innovative and state-of-the-art caravan which includes all the disciplines of ambitious vehicle construction: from consistent lightweight design for a reduction in air resistance thanks to the optimised front surface, to the complete electrification of all essential camping functions such as cooking, cooling or heating. In addition, there is a completely new flexibility in living space design, which offers the same convenient functions of much larger vehicles on a comparatively smaller floor area.
In brief: The Knaus Tabbert development team has confidently taken on the challenges of future e-Caravanning with fresh and innovative ideas to significantly reduce the energy consumption of electric towing vehicles and enable practical ranges for the user.

KNAUS Caravan Utility Vehicles
TOURER CUV and TOURER CUVISION
The best of both worlds It started life as an idea. Then a study was carried out. And now the second model variant, the series version of the VW Bulli T6.1-based TOURER CUV 500 LT has finally been unveiled. Once again, KNAUS has completely redefined the CUV (Caravanning Utility Vehicle) and combined the best of two worlds. With its variable roof, the TOURER CUV offers several advantages: “Retracted” when driving; manoeuvrable and compact like an Urban Class vehicle. This means that the new model is pleasingly low and is less wind resistant. This reduces consumption and protects the environment. This solution also makes it possible to enter some underground car parks. When you arrive at your holiday destination, the Tourer CUV reveals its full standing height of 2.17 m, thanks to a unique and flexible lifting roof structure, which is operated electrically at the push of a button on a remote control and offers around 70 cm more headroom. The modern 500 LT layout is a new addition to the Knaus portfolio. Its plus points: The layout is progressive and practical.
With a total length of just under 5.9 m, the touring CUV 500 LT can sleep up to four if the optional slide bed in the front is ordered. The TOURER CUV is suitable for city driving, and makes manoeuvring through narrow streets and looking for a parking space easy. With a standard permissible total weight of 3200 kg (or optionally 3500 kg), the TOURER CUV is ideal for category B driving licence holders, and is synonymous with flexibility and full camping suitability. With four seats for when it is being driven, up to four beds and plenty of storage space, it is a perfect family vehicle. There is a comfortable face-to-face seat group at the front, which can be converted into a double bed. No vehicle would be complete without a fully-fledged kitchen – with a two-hob stove, a sink and a 90-litre compressor refrigerator – or a comfortable swivel bathroom. The storage space in the stern is also remarkable. Thanks to the FoldXPand design, this ample area can bear up to 150 kg, and can be easily loaded and unloaded through a large door to the left, measuring 1.48 x 0.43 m. The five-kilo bottle in the gas locker is also easy to fill up. This is only for the two-hob stove. Heating is provided by a Combi 4 diesel heater, which is installed under the floor in the stern to save space.
The Tourer CUV is based on a VW 6.1 chassis, with a 110 hp entry-level engine and standard six-speed manual transmission. More powerful engines and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission are also optionally available.
The new Tourer CUV is also available in a KNAUS Tourer CUVISION model – a special edition in Ascot grey with a standard 150 hp drive and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, extensive standard equipment such as 17-inch tyres on alloy wheels, LED headlights, air conditioning in the driver’s cab, heated front seats and a “Discover Media” navigation entertainment system with an inductive charging station for smartphones. The Tourer CUVISION also has a reversing camera. Three generously dimensioned roof hoods let air and light into the vehicle.
The CUVISION also includes a side-mounted awning. And that’s not all: the so-called “Bridge Light” between the KNAUS CATEYE evolution rear lights – a continuous light band – is always included. This makes the vehicle even more visible and gives these new CUVs a high recognition value. The CUVISION tourer is also a frontrunner when it comes to safety systems. Its state-of-the art features include emergency brake assistance, adaptive cruise control (ACC), drowsiness detection and multi-collision braking. The start-stop system with brake energy recovery also protects the environment. Compared to the series model with corresponding equipment, the TOURER CUVISION has an enormous price advantage.
Motorhomes
VAN TI PLUS and VAN TI PLUS PLATINUM SELECTION
Since its market launch, the sporty VAN TI PLUS has impressed with excellent living comfort and exceptional driving dynamics. In model year 2024, these two successful VW Crafter-based models will not undergo a mere facelift, but rather extensive measures to make them better but lighter. There is plenty of weight-saving potential, from the consistent lightweight construction of all of the interior furniture, to the switch to a compressor refrigerator and a compact diesel heater. The latter ensures that the VAN TI PLUS can now manage with a gas bottle that weighs just five kilograms. More plus points of PLUS: In the future, the body will be powered by a more powerful lithium-ion battery. This itself will reduce the vehicle weight by twelve kilograms, while improving self-sufficiency. The highlight of model year 2024, however, is the body floor, which is ten centimetres thicker but around ten kilograms lighter and, due to its higher insulation values, further improves winter suitability. Overall, the new 2024 models weigh around 75 cm less, which significantly improves the use and load capacity of the 650 MEG.
Both layouts (650 MEG and 700 LF) are now also available with reliable and comprehensive PLATINUM equipment, which brings a major price advantage compared to the series model with the corresponding equipment: e.g. chassis in INDIUM GREY metallic paint; original VW 17″ alloy rims; front bumper painted to match the vehicle colour; manual air conditioning; multifunctional steering wheel; swivelling driver’s cab seats in the KNAUS World of Living design; cruise control with speed limiter; drowsiness detection; electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors; “Discover Media” navigation system including “Streaming & Internet” with four loudspeakers, digital radio reception, and reversing camera; PREMIUM cabin door; insect protection door; bed extension to the sunbathing area; bed extension in the foot area with the 700 LF (F bed); ACTIVE ROCK upholstery; Truma CP-Plus digital heating control panel; Bluuwater water filter system; ambient lighting; awning; EXCLUSIVE driver’s cab blackout, and a 32-inch Smart TV that is internet enabled. The special model also has weight-saving potential, because a small and powerful new LTE/W-LAN antenna is installed instead of a standard satellite dish. This lighter LTE/W-LAN antenna also has a positive effect on driving dynamics. This is because the removal of the motorised satellite system, which is usually mounted on the roof and weighs around 23 kg, causes the centre of gravity of the vehicle to “wander” favourably to the centre of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the new model year sees the return of the good range of equipment and the tried-and-tested features which are typical of the VAN TI PLUS, and which make this attractive motorhome an all-rounder for caravan holidays.
VAN WAVE and VAN WAVE VANSATION
Extensive reconstruction with a simple goal: less weight, more benefit
These Knaus models, with a distinctive wave-shaped roof, are also undergoing fundamental improvements that simultaneously serve to save weight and increase customer benefits. Just like with the VAN TI PLUS models, several changes have been made to the KNAUS VAN WAVE. The goal was to increase customer practicability, yet reduce the weight of the vehicle. The furniture construction has been purposefully revised to meet this weight reduction goal. The weight of the thicker base plate with better insulation values has also been minimised and optimised. The new compressor refrigerator and the use of a diesel heater also reduce the weight of the vehicle. A small LTE/W-LAN antenna is installed as standard in the VANSATION special model, which results in further weight savings.
VAN TI
New chassis
The successful VAN TI 640 MEG VANSATION range will be expanded for model year 2024, to include a model based on a Volkswagen Crafter chassis. The many standard extras, which form part of the comprehensive VANSATION package, have remained the same. Driver’s cab air conditioning, air suspension on the rear axle, satellite TV, chassis in a metallic colour, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and navigation and “Bluuwater” filter system or an awning are just a few examples of a practically fully equipped motorhome from KNAUS.
Caravans
YASEO
The flexible caravan of today for the electromobility of tomorrow
The rapidly growing proportion of registrations of vehicles with alternative drive systems in the past year alone proves that: For more and more people, electromobility is an important means of protecting the environment, since no emissions are released locally. More and more of these electric vehicles can also be fitted with a trailer hitch, such as a KIA EV6. The fact that an additional trailer load reduces the range of an electric car is just as important as increasing consumption in a combustion vehicle. In fact, two main factors influence the energy consumption when towing a trailer: the drag coefficient and the weight of the attachment. The engineers at Knaus Tabbert focussed on these two disciplines in particular when developing the new KNAUS YASEO. Consistent lightweight construction in all disciplines, combined with a reduction in the frontal area of the caravan, results from practically applied innovation leadership. The most noteworthy result: less drag, i.e. less fuel consumption for the towing vehicle, regardless of which drive it is equipped with.
A particular highlight of the new YASEO is its multi-flexible space concept, which can be summarised with the slogan “big things come in small packages”. In the new YASEO 500 DK, for example, a floor space of around 10.8 m2 has a usable area of 11.7 m2 thanks to highly flexible furniture concepts. For comparison: A conventional caravan, such as the nominally comparable SÜDWIND 580 QS, requires a significantly larger floor space of 13.3 m2 for the same usable area. What may sound like trying to square the circle is actually the result of many clever ideas, which have been combined to create a truly unique caravan. For example, some of the extra usable space at the front and rear is thanks to the use of FoldXpand technology, which is making its début with Knaus Tabbert, and greatly improves the usage of this caravan. Meanwhile, the so-called Cosy Lounge at the rear is more than multifunctional. It can be used as a comfortable lying and sitting area, as well as a full-sized bed (1.3 x 2.0 m) for two people. That’s not all – the Cosy Lounge has even more smart functions. For example, the seat box to the left of the bathroom door in the lounge can be moved to reveal a large shower tray; and folding out the shower cubicle almost doubles the size of the bathroom. Naturally, there is a toilet in the bathroom. There is also a practical pull-out washbasin, which is harmoniously integrated into the FoldXpand rear wall, making it both “invisible” and space-saving.
Measuring an impressive 1.6 x 2.0 m, the double bed can be folded out of the front wall, and offers maximum lying comfort. It can be folded up “invisibly” on the campsite, creating space for a comfortable face-to-face seating group, which is itself multifunctional. If you need to, it is easy to slide the front seats under the folded double bed. Folding the table up creates essential additional storage space spanning almost the entire interior width of the caravan. Side flaps in the wall conceal an area which is big enough to store two e-bikes. Sturdy lashing eyes are provided to secure these bikes during transport. The load capacity is not a challenge for the YASEO 500 DK, as it is significantly lighter than a SÜDWIND 580 QS. This massive weight saving in the double-digit percentage range is primarily achieved through the multiple functions of the furniture in the caravan – as well as through smart furniture construction that is consistently optimised for weight reduction. The omission of the gas installation in the standard all-electric YASEO saves a further 20-30 kg. A conventional gas heater is also optionally available at the customer’s request. Even more compact and lighter is the second new YASEO layout, the 340 PX with front kitchen. It also has a folding bed and a spacious seating area in the stern. Optional additional storage space in the living area can be accessed via side flaps. With an interior length of just 3.48 m, the YASEO 340-PX offers everything you need for comfortable caravanning for two, without compromise. Naturally, at the rear of these new YASEO caravans, you will find Knaus CATEYE lights, which have been used as standard since 2012. These have been redesigned for model year 2024. In their latest incarnation, CATEYE lights are now 25 percent smaller, but still retain their recognisable design. Their weight and the required installation space have also been reduced. Nevertheless, CATEYE lights are made using full LED technology, which further increases road safety.
In summary: The new YASEO is lighter and more compact, yet larger and therefore significantly more beneficial, than similar caravans with a conventional design. This not only protects the environment and conserves resources, but also enables modern e-caravanning without making sacrifices or compromising on comfort. YASEO fits perfectly into the age of electromobility, with a generous sense of space, a clear line of sight, and a bright and welcoming interior. If you put all of these qualities together, you get a vehicle that takes caravans to a whole new level.
SÜDWIND, SPORT&FUN Black Selection
Refined in detail
The well-known and popular caravan models of the SÜDWIND series have a harmonious colour scheme In the future, they will be optionally available completely in Campovolo grey, which contrasts perfectly with the new black Pro-Tec side strips. The SPORT&FUN transport caravan is also colour-coordinated in the same way.
WEINSBERG
Caravan Utility Vehicles
X-Cursion CUV and X-Cursion CUV EDITION [PEPPER]
Streamlined like a Bulli and big like a WEINSBERG – that’s the X-Cursion CUV. The sleek CUV is the first WEINSBERG vehicle to be based on a VW T6.1 chassis and boast the revolutionary lifting roof. The new basic vehicle perfectly meets the values of the authentic, price-conscious WEINSBERG brand and its unique functionality and design. The T6.1 gives the vehicle a new “face” that blends harmoniously with the typical WEINSBERG look to create a striking, modern unit. Wood and warm colours help the cosy, stylish interior of the X-Cursion CUV to fit in with this.
Two layouts of the new X-Cursion CUV are available: The 500 LT has a practical swivel bathroom, meaning that the washbasin is on one side and can be swivelled over the toilet. Just by pulling a handle, a homogeneous shower cubicle with smooth walls is created on the other side. The shower shelves are integrated into the side wall, and can be used in both shower and wash mode.
In this way, the swivel bath combines two different areas of use with the most efficient use of space. Another special feature of the 500 LT: the fixed face-to-face seating area in the front. Not just one, but two benches are arranged lengthwise. The table between the benches can be widened if necessary. If the driver’s cab seats are rotated, a total of six people can sit comfortably at the table – perfect for inviting guests to the campsite, or a meal with your new neighbours. In addition, the seating area can be transformed into a spacious double bed in no time at all. An optional sliding bed above the driver’s cab, which can be ordered on request, means that up to four people can sleep in the 500 LT. There is plenty of space for your holiday wardrobe and gear in the 60 x 90 cm garage, numerous storage compartments and cupboards, as well as a floor storage compartment which is also accessible via the garage. The 500 MQ impresses with a fully-fledged rear garage and a large double bed in the stern. An optional sliding bed can be ordered for the front, allowing this floor plan to offer sleeping space for up to 4 people in two separate sleeping areas. A special feature of the 500 MQ: The innovative height-adjustable shower. If this is not needed, it can be pushed down to the height of the adjacent bed with just a few simple movements and with the support of a gas spring. The mattress can then be placed on top of the shower. This creates additional floor space and storage space. If the shower is pushed up to the top position, a fully-fledged shower cubicle is created, just like in your own bathroom at home – with a folding wall and headroom of 1.90 m. The mattress is shaped so that the corresponding mattress part can simply be moved aside while the shower is in use. The toilet can be used at any time, in either sleep or shower mode. Both layouts of the X-Cursion VAN have a spacious kitchen with a sink, a two-hob stove and a 90-litre Thetford compressor refrigerator. The boiler and heating are diesel-powered, meaning that gas is only required for the cooker and a 5 kg gas bottle is therefore sufficient. With an interior width of 200 cm and a vehicle length of 588 cm, the new CUV is both spacious and compact. However, the Knaus Tabbert developers paid particular attention to the completely redesigned lifting roof. It is electrically operated and can be raised by 700 mm at the push of a button, therefore transforming the compact and streamlined WEINSBERG into a fully-fledged motorhome with plenty of overhead space.
And right from the outset, the X-Cursion CUV is also available as an extensively equipped special model [PEPPER]. These features go far beyond the usual [PEPPER] equipment. They include, inter alia: 150 hp engine power; 7-speed automatic gearbox; white sidewalls and Pure Grey driver’s cab; bumpers painted to match the body colour; electric exterior mirrors; 17” VW alloy wheels; LED headlights, including LED daytime running lights, high beam “Light Assist” and fog lights, including cornering lights; insect protection door; awning light; awning in anthracite grey; hinged panoramic window; second garage door; heated windscreen washer nozzles; tyre pressure display; ACC distance control, including Front Assist with city emergency braking function, colour multifunction display; drowsiness detection; VW Naviceiver for streaming and internet, including reversing camera; multifunctional leather steering wheel; insulated and heated waste water tank; height-adjustable original VW seats with double armrests and lumbar support; seat heating for driver’s seat and front passenger seat; easy-care and durable Active Line MALABAR fabric; 24” Smart TV; ambient lighting, and smartphone interface with inductive charging function. The X-Cursion CUV EDITION [PEPPER] with its extensive range of additional equipment has an enormous price advantage over the series model with the corresponding standard equipment (country-specific deviations are possible).
Motorhomes
CaraSuite/CaraLoft
Expansion of the range: More layouts for more variety
The new WEINSBERG CaraSuite and CaraLoft motorhome ranges are expanding: six new layouts are now available for these two models. For CaraLoft these are 550 MG, 550 MF, 600 MEG and 650 MEG. The 550 MG and 650 MF layouts complete the range of CaraSuite models. What is remarkable about the enlarged WEINSBERG portfolio? The compact 550 MG and 550 MF models have an overall length of under six metres, yet still offer everything that a caravanner’s heart desires. For example, the MG has an ample rear garage that can be easily accessed via a large door (63 x 110 cm). What is remarkable about the CaraSuite 550 MG? Despite its ultra-compact dimensions, it offers comfortable seats and sleeping spaces for four people. Three of the sleeping spaces are in the stern, and a fold-down bed above the central seating area is included as standard. These new compact vehicles, which are based on a Ford Transit chassis, are true all-rounders, thanks to the practical bathroom – a deluxe shower room. The new 600 MEG layout of the CaraLoft, which has a space-saving and congenially designed flex bathroom, is also outstanding in daily use. The advantages of this solution: With the maximum variability in the interior, no compromises need to be made when it comes to the interior design of a vehicle measuring less than 6.5 m in length. This applies in particular to the bed on the left, which measures 2.1 m. A 130 hp front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox are always included as standard in the new WEINSBERG CaraLoft and CaraSuite. A 155 hp drive and an automatic transmission are also available on request. Cab air conditioning, cruise control and a Ford audio system are also included in all WEINSBERG motorhomes, which are based on a Ford Transit chassis.
Camper Vans
CaraLife 630 LQ
Vanlife by WEINSBERG: young, fresh, active – already individual ex-works
The revolution is coming on 235 tyres: The makers of the extraordinarily designed WEINSBERG CaraLife 630 LQ have pursued a completely new – almost revolutionary – approach. The aim was to build a campervan that was consistently aimed at a young and active target group. As many fans will tell you, caravanning is all about pure relaxation. If that’s so, then the CaraLife is like relaxing on 235 tyres. A rolling chill-out lounge for lovers of the incomparable caravan life. It all starts with the customisable exterior design. Customers can choose their favourites from a number of custom features in order to design their WEINSBERG according to their own taste and to add their own style. But good design does not end with how the outside of the vehicle is decorated. The WEINSBERG designers also pulled out all the stops creatively on the inside, starting with the rather unusual layout of the new campervan. The transverse bed at the rear looks comparatively conventional at first glance, but it can also be converted into a sofa and used as a media lounge, or for watching TV – if the optional 32-inch television is installed in the entrance area. It is attached to the rear wall of the kitchen, meaning that it can also be accessed from the outside. Or it can be used for sunbathing by up to three people, if the bed is extended to the front using the pull-out slatted frames, creating a large lying area measuring approx. 190×210 cm. In addition, the list of things that you can hide under the double bed is endless – wakeboards, e-bikes, skates… That’s just the tip of the iceberg. The area in front of the rear bed is also very unusual compared to in the classic campervan layout. In front of the transverse bed is a lavish and cosy face-to-face lounge for up to five people, which extends across the entire width of the vehicle and can also be converted into an additional guest bed. The fully-fledged kitchen is arranged in an L-shape at the very front on the bulkhead partition leading to the three-seater driver’s cab, and is positioned on the left in the direction of travel. It also features a fold-out vanity cupboard with a removable wash bag. Here you will find a sink, a two-hob gas stove and a compressor refrigerator with double-sided door hinges, which indeed also has a freezer compartment. Naturally, there is plenty of space for utensils and supplies. A secret of the kitchenette is a bar compartment, which is accessible from the outside and boasts a small counter and a removable basket for glasses and bottles. Kitchen, lounge, bedroom… Just one question remains: Where’s the bathroom? WEINSBERG engineers have also reinvented this in an unusual and modern way. The shower is in the middle of the motorhome. Right in the middle of the seating group, to be precise! The shower tray is invisibly embedded in the floor under the adjustable table. An opaque and waterproof textile folding shower cabin – called Secret Shower – can be very easily pulled up within seconds and forms a usable, well-protected shower cubicle.
A portable toilet, housed in one of the airtight seat boxes, completes the CaraLife bathroom and turns the vehicle into a fully-fledged and self-sufficient campervan, which is also suitable for free camping life away from conventional parking spaces. The material and colour schemes of the new WEINSBERG model are more than just ‘suitable’. Every lovingly crafted detail of the interior of the new CaraLife 630 LQ radiates a bright and airy design and makes the vehicle as fresh as a summer breeze. Other unusual features include the laminated “pin boards” on the side walls, which have specially designed brackets which are flexible and suitable for transporting or storing cherished possessions. Your skateboard can be docked here, right next to a gallery of photos of your nearest and dearest. There are almost no limits to the creativity of the CaraLife owner when using this highly flexible system.
This stylish camper van also appears limitless when looking upwards, as the mobile chill-out lounge is now equipped with an innovative WEINSBERG pop-up roof, making the CaraLife 630 LQ even more relaxed and cosy. The optional pop-up roof features a comfortable two-ply cold-foam mattress, providing a huge reclining area of 200 x 135cm – and therefore provides two more comfortable spaces for sleeping. Unique LFI technology on the roof shell ensures optimal insulation of the roof and provides ideal stability. In addition, the roof has useful storage compartments and reading lights. Evenings can be spent in some relaxed reading before going to sleep. The roof hatch features an integrated insect screen and blackout blind for a good night’s rest. Furthermore, the Comfort version features a roof with integrated RGB lighting and a USB socket next to the sleeping area. The pop-up roof is available in white as standard but can also be provided in lava grey, making it the crown – in its most literal sense – on the top of this exceptional camper van.
This campervan, which is new for model year 2024, is based on a Fiat Ducato chassis and has a partition separating the three-seat driver’s cab from the rear interior. In this bold layout, elements of the kitchen can be extended into the area next to the entrance. In the series with 140 hp and manual gearbox, more engine power and an eight-speed automatic transmission are optionally available. Optional the latest assistance systems are on board, making the Ducato one of the safest leisure vehicles in the industry.
OWN
Individual design for PEPPER models, based on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis.
Individuality will play an even greater part in future for WEINSBERG. The popular manufacturer of leisure vehicles is offering the new OWN finishing line under the motto of “personal style by WEINSBERG”. Customisation is now possible – initially for CaraCompact [PEPPER] models based on a Mercedes-Benz chassis, The entire front of the OWN model radiates powerful dynamics. This is the result of the new radiator grille combined with the optimised bug apron. In addition, high-sheen metal wheels in a 17-inch format also add a dynamic accent to the overall image of the vehicle. In addition, the ventilation grilles can be optimised and refined with fins which are used in motorsport.
